Re: Obese People
Hermit you are correct i to.a point n food directed generally but labelling for stuff marketed to kids isn't as clear as labelling for food marketed to.adults. Munch bunch yoghurt for example are packed with sugar but the labelling is focussed on what proportion of sugar is appropriate for an adults daily intake..

I think people have 100% responsibility for their own health, as long as they know what's causing it, why would anyone think otherwise? People are obese because of a physiological reaction to fructose and complex carbohydrates, and if people were aware of it they would have a better chance of combating their problem, as opposed to being told its something totally different.

8bn and a pair of titis, fucking win win in my book!!!

and regarding the fatties, lets be honest the disdain most give them and not moderate to heavy drinkers is because largely they are not very nice to look at are they.

Re: Obese People
Even the way in which obesity is measured is flawed, most people look at their BMI, a scale which was invented in about 1830 and takes no account of a persons percentage of visceral fat. Their are plenty of Tofis (people who are Thin Outside, Fat Inside) who think they are perfectly healthy but are carrying dangerously high levels of visceral fat

Orwell. Why do you think obese people are obese? Or to put another way, what role/responsibility do you think people have in their own health?

Re: Obese People
Not everyone who is obese is .morbidly obese..Also.it seems you want to totally ignore the fact that drinking is poisoning your body so even at the most conservative levels you could be doing yourself harm

When you talk.morbidly obese then you are probably talking about the level.of eating that is bordering on addiction, if you were drinking to that level.the harm.would be significant. Like i say you are refusing to compare like with like.

Someone can look.overweight just by consuming a small.amount over the recommended calorie intake. ( if they have a slow metabolism) They'd be obese but not morbidly so but you'd see the evidence of their over indulgence, and think yuk.that person has no respect for their body.

Similarly someone could drink a few units a week.over whichever limit you choose to believe in.and be doing themselves harm. Your obstinate belief that they are not disrespecting their body by effectively poisoning themselves does you no credit.

And yet even me, as ignorant as I am, have read enough to know that too much sugar and not enough exercise makes you fat. If I can get it, anyone should.

"If the safe levels of alcohol are set at 14 units then anything you are drinking above that is likely to be doing damage..Is that respecting your body?"

To answer this question would involve having to adopt your ridiculous position that drinking 6 pints of lager over a 7 day period is as bad for one's health as being morbidly obese.

And as others have said, 6 pints over 7 days is not "set" as the watershed for causing damage, as you seem convinced it is.

"There is a wealth of information about the impact of sugar"

Clearly you haven't read.

Hermit Road 2:01 Wed Oct 9
Re: Obese People
There is a wealth of information about the impact of sugar. If you eat too much of it and dont compensate with exercise, then you will likely gain weight and end up obese. If you feed lots of it to your kids and let them sit on their arse all day playing the xbox, they will likely end up obese.

Most obese people know this which is why they try and go on diets and tall about exercising one day.

Re: Obese People
You cannot deny that the perceived wisdom up until recently has been that it is fat that makes you fat, its been rammed down our throats since the seventies and there is a massive industry in low fat food. A lot of people, have taken it upon themselves to eat a low fat diet to try to lose weight, and it hasn't worked, obesity rates have continued to rise. I'm infantilizing anybody, you cant make good decisions on bad advice.

lower won't that recommendation be based on research on at what rate damage is done. A measure in spain is whatever the barman fancies putting in from.what i have seen.

These governments just make it up as they go along.

It's nonsense.

We are talking about fructose as I said earlier in the thread, and its obvious from that comment that you don't know. And you keep making the assumption that most people know that its sugar, not fat that causes obesity, and there is a good reason for it.

lowermarshhammer 1:24 Wed Oct 9
Re: Obese People
When they applied their figures to life expectancy at age 40, the researchers calculated that compared with people drinking up to 12.5 units a week:

those who drank 12.5 to 25 units a week were likely to live 6 months less
those who drank 25 to 44 units were likely to live 1 to 2 years less
those who drank more than 44 units were likely to live 4 to 5 years less

Counting units is a load of old shit. Couldn't give a toss if it takes 18 months off my life.

Off for a run now because I eat at least a packet of crisps a day and ram pistachios down my cake hole continuously during the cricket season. I'm not, nor ever have been or ever intend to be a fattie. Everything in moderation with a binge whenever you fancy it is my motto.
